物流工程学院专家讲座:A LEGO based hardware-in-the-loop simulator

This presentation introduces a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator for container terminals built with LEGO and controlled by MicroCity software. The project addresses the challenges in managing increasingly busy and automated container terminals, where traditional software simulators can be unreliable black boxes and conventional hardware simulators are expensive and lack flexibility.
The goal was to create a flexible, portable, simple, and reliable simulator. The design combines LEGO hardware, including an EV3 controller, motors, and sensors, with the MicroCity software environment, which provides a 3D graphical interface and discrete event simulation capabilities. The system uses PID control to manage physical movements like hoisting and seizing, synchronized with software events. The hardware model of a rail-mounted gantry crane was designed and built using standard LEGO bricks, progressing from prototype to a tested simulator.
This HIL simulator has proven effective in both educational and research applications. When used in a Logistics System Simulation course, it increased student satisfaction from 72% to 91% and attendance from 83% to 93% compared to using software alone. For research, it has been used to study yard crane scheduling problems. The presenter concludes that the simulator is a vivid and handy tool for rapid prototyping, teaching, and research in automated container terminals.

孙卓,现为大连海事大学交通运输工程学院教授,博士生导师,新加坡国立大学海事研究中心客座研究员,辽宁省“海智百人计划”专家。主要教学研究方向为物流供应链规划与仿真。承担4项国家级项目、4项省部级项目(含教学改革)、1项市级项目和4项校内本科教学改革,发表SCI/SSCI/CSSCI论文30余篇以及多篇教学改革论文。开发的软件MicroCity(https://microcity.github.io)填补了国际空白并取得软件著作权2项。曾获新加坡政府举办的《新一代集装箱港口设计挑战》金奖、阿里巴巴和美国INFORMS学会联合举办的《菜鸟网络全球算法大赛》季军;获得辽宁省自然科学学术成果奖二等奖2次;指导学生3次获得国际比赛的前三名,6次获得全国大学生交通物流A类比赛的一二等奖;获得全国大学生物流仿真设计大赛优秀指导教师、辽宁省优秀硕士学位论文指导教师荣誉称号。获得辽宁省研究生教育教学成果特等奖和辽宁省普通高等教育(本科)教学成果一等奖各1次。
