The French Government Awarded Professor Tang Tianhao of Shanghai Maritime University with Commandeur
On April 8, the French government awarded Professor Tang Tianhao of Logistics Engineering College of SMU with the "the French Republic of Palms Education Commandeur ". The ceremony was held at French Consulate General in Shanghai and was attended by Jin Yongxing, the party secretary of our university, the head of International Office and Logistics Engineering College and representatives of teachers.
Mr. Axel CRUAU, General Consul of France in Shanghai, spoke highly of Prof. Tang's contribution to the international cooperation and Sino-French exchange and personally wore the medal for Professor Tang.
Mr. Jin Yongxing delivered a speech on behalf of the school, and thanked the French government for the award for Professor Tang Tianhao which brought honor to Shanghai Maritime University. He said that the award of Professor Tang Tianhao is recognition of his commitment to promoting the education and scientific exchanges and cooperation of two sides as well as fruitful results of international cooperation of our university. Professor Tang Tianhao showed his gratitude for the joint efforts of China and French as well as school’s support in awarding speech.
The president and representatives of France branch of Europe and the United States Students Association in Shanghai also participated in the honors activities.
Professor Tang Tianhao has been committed to Sino-French education and high-end scientific research cooperation and exchanges for a long time and made a great achievement in it. French government awarded Professor Tang Tianhao with "the French Republic of Palms Education Commandeur " for his contribution.
" Commandeur " is a medal of honor in France, founded by Napoleon which mainly awarded French citizens who made contribution in the war originally. In 1963, the French President Charles De Gaulle advocate to re-establish " Commandeur " which became French government's highest national honor then. In addition to rewarding French citizens who had made outstanding contributions to the country, it also awarded foreign citizens who had made outstanding contributions to the development France’s foreign relations. The award for foreign citizenship should be nominated by foreign minister of French firstly and then issued by the President of France.
