The 10th Anniversary Sino-Dutch Undergraduate Programs

On November 8, 2017, Sino-Dutch Mechatronics Engineering Colleges (Logistics Engineering College) of Shanghai Maritime University held an opening ceremony of a series of celebrations on "10th Anniversary of Sino-Dutch Undergraduate Programs" at library plaza.
Shi Xin, vice president of Shanghai Maritime University, delivered an opening speech in which President Shi fully affirmed the achievements of Sino-Dutch Undergraduate Programs as well as the contribution to the internationalization education of our school. At the same time, he expressed his appreciation for the effectiveness of International Cooperation in Running Schools and hoped that Sino-Dutch Undergraduate Programs could cultivate more international personnel.
Professor Hu Xiong, dean of the Sino-Dutch Mechatronics Engineering Colleges, delivered a speech expressing his determination and confidence in long-term development strategy of running schools internationally. Bert Verhage, Project Leader of Zeeland University in the Netherlands, also gave a warm speech and spoke highly of the cooperation project with our university. He praised the students who were sent to study in the Netherlands for their high overall quality and learning ability and hoped to continue the cooperation in running a school project. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Xu Xiaoyan, vice dean of the Sino-Dutch Mechatronics Engineering Colleges.
International Cooperation Project jointly organized by Shanghai Maritime University and the Netherlands Zeeland University including "electrical engineering and intelligent control (Sino-Dutch cooperation)" and "mechanical and electrical engineering (Sino-Dutch cooperation)" two undergraduate majors which have been approved by the Education Ministry in 2006. The enrollment projects of these two majors have been part of the national higher school autumn enrollment plan and began in 2007 with academic system for 4 years. The project aimed to cultivate innovative electromechanical engineering personnel in line with international standards. Therefore, both China and Netherlands elaborated plans for training, giving full play to the teaching expertise of both sides and determined the school-running mechanism with complementary advantages. This mode of cultivation maximized the learning potential of students under the existing faculty and school resources and provided a higher and broader development platform for students.
After 10 years of continuous development, these two Sino-Dutch international cooperation in running schools have trained nearly 1000 graduates in seven sessions. Up to now, 301 students have gone abroad for study after their interviews. The vast majority of students performed outstandingly and worked in well-known multinational companies or went for further study in well-known universities when they graduate. Students who studied in our school in China also performed well with good employment of further study condition when they graduated. These gratifying achievements in education were due to the education idea of training high-level internationalized engineering and technical personnel, the strong support of leaders at all levels of schools and colleges, the teaching and management work of the teachers in both China and the Netherlands and endeavor of both sides.
The celebration of the 10th Anniversary Sino-Dutch Undergraduate Programs would last for more than three weeks, including the opening ceremony, the graphic display, the video display, the celebration party and the alumni talk.
