Mi Weijian

Ph.D., Professor, and Ph.D. Supervisor, Vice Chairman of the labor union of Shanghai Maritime University

Mi Weijian, Ph.D., Professor, and Ph.D. supervisor. Born in 1956, he received from Shanghai Maritime University a Bachelor's degree in 1982, a master's degree in 1988, and later, a Ph.D.  from TONGJI University in 1998. He is now executive Vice Chairman of the labor union of Shanghai Maritime University, executive Deputy Director of Engineering Research Center of Container supply chain technology of Ministry of Education, Responsible Person of the Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Discipline, which is one of the Shanghai municipal Key Discipline, and the Responsible Person of Logistics Engineering and Management Discipline, which is one of the Shanghai City Board of Education Key Discipline. He is concurrently member of Special equipment safety technology committee of General Administration of Quality Supervision, The member National Port Standardization Technical Committee(SAC/TC530) and Jib crane Branch of  National Hoisting Machinery Standardization Technical Committee, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC, executive Director of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the Secretary-General of the Test and Control Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Society of Vibration Engineering, executive Director of China Society of Logistics, Director of Fault Diagnosis Technology Committee of China, Managing Editor of Journal of Vibration, Measurement And Diagnosis, Managing Editor of Journal of Vibration And Shock, Associate Editor of Chinese Journal of Construction Machinery, Associate Editor of Journal of Shanghai Maritime University, and etc.

The main contributions of Professor Weijian Mi in scientific aspect could be concluded as following. He developed a fault diagnosis model for large rotary bearings, which solved the large rotary bearings' fault diagnosis problems of more than 50 sets of equipments distributed in 7 large or medium-sized port nationwide. He researched the safety control question of large port machinery, and applied fracture mechanics theory into the fatigue life analysis problem of machinery metal structures in port, put forward the concept of boundary stress, thus to determine the inspection site, and to determine the polling period with crack opening displacement model and crack propagation law, to get successfully the quantitative account of the effect of weld crack extension. This research results obtained the second price of Ministry of Science and Technology progress award in 1999. He also researched on the key technique of the heavy maritime lifting equipment, the fully revolving floating crane, and explored its application. This research result won the second price of national science and technology progress award in 2010. He also directed the following scientific research projects: Research on the intelligent Manage and Control System of Container Terminals based on MAS (science and technology project of Ministry of Transport), Technical Characteristics and Acceptance Documents of Container Crane (science and technology project of the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision), Application Demonstration of Automatic Container Terminal Equipment (863 national key project plan), and new Integrated Test System of Dynamics Vibration Environment Test and Modal Analysis (National Natural Science Fund Project).
